It started out as a Cub blog with cuss words. I'm still cussin'; it's the Cub part I'm a little squishy on these days.

Heard from more than one source that Greg Maddux would like the opportunity to end his career where it started, alongside Mark Prior. The sentimentalist in me would love to give him this chance. He would look so good in the three or four hole, and I think he would thrive in not having to hold the staff on his shoulders for once. He would finish the education of Prior and Wood, maybe give Clement a leg up on being more than a break-even guy, and if he can get Cruz and Zambrano to settle down and achieve their potential, it would be a miracle. I have no such illusions on his effect on Farns. There is no competitive reason to not make this move, if it is in fact true. But, how much would he ask for? If we pay him much more than we paid Shawn Estes, $3M, this is going to severely curtail what we can do to build our infield and catching offense.
